THE PROJECT
This stained glass window was created as one of three props for a 3D world-building assignment. I modelled the window in Blender before exporting it to Unreal Engine. After completing the required prop, I took the project further by making the stained glass functional, allowing its image to project onto nearby surfaces when light shines through it.
THE CHALLENGE
The project required creating a detailed prop that could fit into a larger 3D environment. I needed to build the window with enough structure and detail to make it recognizable while also preparing it for use in Unreal Engine.
GOING FURTHER
Once the required model was complete, I experimented with additional functionality. Making the stained glass project its image through light was not part of the assignment requirements, but gave the prop an extra interactive quality.
WHAT I LEARNED
This project gave me experience moving a model between Blender and Unreal Engine while experimenting with how lighting can add functionality to an environmental prop. It also encouraged me to explore ideas beyond the original assignment requirements.
01 / MODELLING
From wireframe to window.
The stained glass window began as a 3D model in Blender, where I built and refined the structure before moving it into Unreal Engine.
02 / FUNCTIONALITY
Making light part of the design.
After importing the model into Unreal Engine, I explored how the stained glass could interact with light. The finished functionality allows the window's image to project onto a surface when light shines through it.
03 / FINAL MODEL
The finished prop.
The final Blender renders show the completed stained glass window and its functional glass design.
